A moment in time

A moment in time

A moment in time

A poem that remembers a spot of Cornish magic shared with family.

Part way through our 3-day 'Pendeen to Treen' coast path hike back in September, we had the most magical moment early one morning at Land's End.

It was one of those rare days of dazzling blue sky, the visitor attraction was closed for the Queen's funeral and suddenly a feeding frenzy unfurled before our eyes with giant bluefin tuna leaping out of the water in a sensational spectacle.

Definitely a case of being in the right place at the right time, but wow are those tuna something to behold. With so much to carry, our camera kit didn't make the cut on that trip, so all we have to remember the moment is this poem that I've written.

A MOMENT IN TIME

A monarch dies, the footsteps stop,
But nature's governed by its own clock.
Land's End bathed in morning light,
Barely another soul in sight.
Frenzied tuna at once take flight,
Bulky forms hurled with crashing might.
Seabirds follow the underwater lead,
With swirling aerobatics plunge to feed.
Seals bottle closer to shore,
Choughs call and bouldered cliff face soar.
A rare window of calm let's nature shine,
A spectacle beyond the lonely tourist sign.

Zooming out to the trip as a whole, I recount our day-to-day experience of this adventure in this poem. Alternatively, you can find a comprehensive rundown of the planning and logistics of this trip here.
